A Silent Killer
Known as "the other high blood pressure"
pulmonary hypertension (PH) occurs
unexpectedly as blood vessels supplying the
lungs narrow and walls thicken. They can’t
carry as much blood causing the heart to work
harder trying to force more blood through.
Pressure builds to dangerously high levels
and the patient feels a severe shortness of
breath, like suffocation. The heart, working
overtime even at rest, enlarges until the victim
dies of heart failure. There is no cure short of
a lung or heart-lung transplant. Hundreds of
